What you need:
Students should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy. Students who are able to satisfy the entrance requirements may be able to undertake the BTEC First Diploma in Construction (Level 2). This is a two year course and covers Painting and Decorating, Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery. There are also three core units covering The construction Industry, Health & Safety and Science & Maths.
The tutors delivering the course have an extensive knowledge of the construction industry and a proven track record in the delivery of Construction courses. Their practical knowledge of the industry gives the student a clear insight into activities they might encounter on a typical building site on a typical day while their experience of teaching will give the students and parents the support necessary for successful completion of the course.
How you are assessed:
Students are assessed throughout the two years in both their practical and theory work and are graded pass, merit and distinction with the opportunity to improve their grades if they desire. Achievement is closely tracked so students, parents and schools can monitor progress and personal learning plans can be set. The team are keen in involving everyone to help in the learning process to ensure students achieve their full potential.
The tutors here at the centre want the students to achieve but just as importantly to enjoy and benefit from attending the centre. Part of the ethos of the team is to help students develop their life skills and help prepare them for life beyond school whether it’s in the construction industry, further education or another industry.
